As part of its CSR policy, UMOA-Titres entered into a partnership with the AFRIVAC Foundation from 2016 to 2019 to support vaccine independence in Africa.

The AFRIVAC Foundation aims to prepare the ground for vaccine independence in Africa by establishing a strong inter-African public-private partnership for child vaccination. More specifically, AFRIVAC seeks to organise, encourage and transparently collect private-sector contributions towards financing children’s vaccination through the purchase of vaccine doses via duly authorised organisations such as UNICEF, which supply vaccines to GAVI-supported countries and are able to provide AFRIVAC with the prices applied to those countries.

Through this partnership, UMOA-Titres committed itself to a sustainable development path by supporting the financing of vaccination programmes.

A number of actions were implemented during this period, as detailed below:

Action 1

The two organisations agreed on a memorandum of understanding. This agreement established the framework for the partnership’s actions in order to achieve the objectives set. For UMOA-Titres, this memorandum reflected its determination to contribute to the financing of social development in Africa, and more specifically in the WAEMU region.

Action 2

The second action involved contributing to the production of a directory entitled KENEYA, intended for sale. This directory compiled by AFRIVAC lists healthcare professionals, ranging from doctors of all specialties to nurses and pharmacists, as well as suppliers of medical equipment and laboratories. This initiative responds to a lack of information when seeking a specialist or general practitioner. It therefore serves as a means of making medical information available and accessible to all.

Sensitive to this issue, UMOA-Titres agreed to provide support so that AFRIVAC could generate funds capable of financing its action. In this context, the management of UMOA-Titres also committed to distributing the directories internally and among its partners.

Action 3

UMOA-Titres was one of AFRIVAC’s key partners during the organisation of a fundraising dinner in support of children’s vaccination. The theme of the dinner was “Impact Investing”, and its objectives were, first, to complement previous fundraising efforts in order to help finance revenue-generating projects dedicated to the purchase of vaccines alongside institutional partners, and secondly, to turn all dinner participants into social investors.

This charity dinner accounted for half of AFRIVAC’s annual results and complemented the annual contributions made by companies that had signed memoranda of understanding. As such, it became the Foundation’s largest fundraising event.

This partnership with AFRIVAC is a contribution to saving lives and improving the well-being of our populations through the financing of vaccination. Above all, however, it reflects UMOA-Titres’ vision of being a responsible institution committed to the social development of communities and to improving their well-being.
