FSD Africa

Founded in 2012 and supported by UK aid, FSD Africa is a specialised development agency working to build and strengthen financial markets in sub-Saharan Africa. FSD Africa is funded by UK Aid from the UK Government. The organisation works to reduce poverty through a market systems development approach, meaning that FSD Africa seeks to tackle the structural and underlying causes of poverty by improving the way financial market systems function.

At FSD Africa, programme design is intended to address systemic challenges within African financial markets, with the aim of driving large-scale and long-term change. Its interventions are designed from the ground up to ensure that African financial markets better serve those who need them most today and well beyond the lifespan of its programmes.

Headquartered in Nairobi, FSD Africa’s team of more than 35 financial sector experts leads ambitious programmes spanning 28 countries across the continent.

FSD Africa is part of a family of 9 financial sector deepening programmes, or FSD programmes, operating across sub-Saharan Africa and collectively known as the FSD Network. The network provides more than GBP 50 million per year in financial support for high-potential financial market development programmes and employs more than 150 financial sector experts based in local offices across Africa.
