US Department of the Treasury

The United States Department of the Treasury is the executive department responsible for promoting economic prosperity and ensuring the financial security of the United States. The Department is responsible for a wide range of activities, including advising the President on economic and financial matters, supporting sustainable economic growth, and promoting sound governance across financial institutions.

The Department maintains systems that are essential to the nation’s financial infrastructure, including the production of coins and currency, the disbursement of payments to the American public, the collection of revenues, and the borrowing of funds required to operate the federal government.

The Department also works with other federal agencies, foreign governments, and international financial institutions to promote global economic growth, raise living standards, and, where possible, anticipate and prevent economic and financial crises.
