The DC/BR is responsible for the safekeeping and circulation of dematerialised securities within the WAEMU region. It acts on behalf of both issuers and intermediaries. In its role as Settlement Bank, it may also hold the cash balances of market participants.
As the central infrastructure of the regional financial market, the DC/BR performs the following functions:
- exclusive codification of securities for the WAEMU region;
- centralised custody of securities accounts for its members;
- settlement of stock market transactions;
- settlement of balances resulting from the clearing of market transactions and payment of income and other securities-related entitlements (interest, dividends, etc.);
- management of securities transactions (transfers, pledging, repurchase transactions, release of pledged securities, etc.);
- management of the Market Guarantee Fund.
